Authorities now say that the home where a man was fatally shot by police over the weekend contained a meth lab.

Jackson County authorities had responded to a home in the 8000 block of Clarke Lake Road in Columbia Township around 11am Sunday, on a domestic disturbance call.  When police arrived, they found several people, including a man with a bat who began to threaten them.

Authorities warned the man repeatedly to drop the weapon, but a confrontation ensued leading to the man being shot and killed by police.

The man, identified as 51-year-old Terry Maurer, apparently was wanted out of Lenawee County since 2014 for being a parole absconder.

Through investigation of the incident, authorities then found Monday afternoon methamphetamine in the house, along with active meth labs.  Authorities say at this time that the two cases are being investigated separately, and that they aren’t necessarily connected.
