The two Battle Creek high schools that remain in the Michigan High School Athletic Association's volleyball regional finals have two different histories.

The Harper Creek Beavers have gone through the 2014 season virtually unnoticed, not even receiving votes in the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The Beavers should be get some notice now, after marking 3-1 victory over the Buchanan Bucks in the Class B Regional Final at Dowagiac. The semifinal was played at Edwardsburg, with the final being moved due to a boil water advisory. While it's unfamiliar territory for the Beavers, they will play in a familiar gym at Parma Western in the State Quarterfinals, as they on the Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard Fighting Irish on November 18th. Game time is at 6:30pm.

In Class D, the storied tradition of the St. Philip Tigers will continue into next week. The eight-time Class D State champs are on another roll, as they sweep the Camden-Frontier Redskins 3-0 on Thursday night in Hillsdale. After winning another district on their home floor last week, familiarity will continue in November 18th's State Quarterfinal as they travel across town to Lakeview. The Tigers, who were ranked third in the final MIVCA poll in Class D, will take on the second-ranked Mendon Hornets at 7pm.
