A component of the BC Vision effort, it was recently announced, will be a community study - focused in particular on schools and inequities in education.

Dr. David Kirkland, executive director of the New York University Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools, has been engaged to conduct the research.

Kirkland tells WBCK he knows personally how difficult it is to overcome challenges to learning when inequities exist. Kirkland attended Detroit Public Schools.

Click the player below to hear Kirkland's take on how they will approach the Battle Creek study, and how they expect the community can make use of the information it reveals.

Hear The Richard Piet Show weekday mornings from 5:30-9 on WBCK.
