Battle Creek City Manager Rebecca Fleury and Assistant City Manager Ted Dearing continue to express confidence about downtown and other area economic development. Specifically, Dearing told WBCK he thinks a tipping point has been passed in favor of a major re-development at Heritage Tower in downtown Battle Creek.

Fleury told WBCK she has confidence staff shake-ups at Battle Creek Unlimited are over, and director Joe Sobieralski is fielding calls regularly about potential development in Battle Creek.

Both discussed the notion that announcements of job cuts this year at TreeHouse Foods and Post in Battle Creek can have a negative effect on those development efforts which are ongoing, but that overarching confidence continues to move other projects forward.

Fleury and Dearing also discussed previous concerns expressed by Calhoun County Treasurer-elect Brian Wensauer about vacant buildings being sold at extremely low prices in downtown Battle Creek in order to spur new development.
