A woman in Jackson County will remain free, after a federal appeals court overturned a murder conviction. Katherine Dendel was originally convicted for an insulin overdose of her longtime companion. On Monday, in a 2-1 decision, a federal court found that Dendel’s rights were violated by an ineffective attorney at her 2003 trial. She was convicted of second-degree murder and released from prison in 2012.
