Lots of fun activities are scheduled for May for bike riders in Battle Creek.  Here's a press release from the city:

Community encouraged to participate in Bicycle Month activities

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — May is National Bicycle Month and the city’s Bicycle Advisory Committee wants to share a calendar full of events to promote and encourage biking in May and beyond.

The activities welcome everyone — all bicycle types, all skill levels and all ages. All activities will take place in rain, shine or snow.

·         Wednesday, May 6 is Walk/Bike to School Day, as organized by the National Center for Safe Routes to School. While the committee is not organizing activities on this day, members ask all area schools to encourage their students to walk and, especially, ride to their schools on May 6 and throughout the school year.

·         Friday, May 15 is Bike to Work Day and, once again, the committee will lead two organized rides, both starting at 7:30 a.m.
The north route will begin at the entrance to Bailey Park and ride mostly along the city’s Linear Park path to Kellogg World Headquarters, 1 Kellogg Square (across McCamly Street from Festival Market Square). This route is 3.5 miles.
The south route will begin at Culver’s Restaurant, 5074 Beckley Road, heading north on Capital Avenue SW and also ending at Kellogg World Headquarters. This route is 4.72 miles.
Those interested in riding with the groups can call Team Active for more information, (800) 841-9494. All residents are encouraged to ride to work.

·         Wednesday, May 20 is the Ride of Silence, a worldwide event that honors those who have been injured or killed while riding bicycles.
Two rides will start and end at the city’s Willard Beach Park, off of George B Place. The first will take a 10-mile loop through the Lakeview area and the second will be a 5K (3.1-mile) ride around the nearby Riverside Elementary.
Contact Chad Curtis for more information, (269) 979-1996.

·         Thursday, May 28 is a slow ride to Bailey Park for a Battle Creek Bombers game. Riders will meet at 5:30 p.m. at Burnham Brook Community Center, 200 W. Michigan Ave., proceeding to Bailey Park and C.O. Brown Stadium. Secure bicycle parking will be available.
