Police in Calhoun County are looking for a suspect after a homeowner was injured during an apparent break-in attempt. 

The Michigan State Police Marshall Post says that the incident happened around 12:30am, at a residence in the 6000 block of J Dr. S in southwestern Newton Township. The resident heard a "loud noise near his front door", prompting him to grab his shotgun and go outside to search the area.

The MSP says the man found a suspect standing outside; the suspect then shot at him with a gun multiple times, and ended up striking him once in the hand. The victim's condition wasn't given.

The suspect in this felonious assault and attempted home invasion fled the scene on foot, and an arrest wasn't announced. He was seen wearing blue jeans, a gray t-shirt, and a black ski mask at the time of the crime.
