No Expert, No Appeal

A state appeals court has ruled that a murder conviction, based on DNA, will stand. According to the Associated Press, even though Johnny Ray Kennedy was refused a state appointed expert to help his defense challenge the evidence, his conviction will stand. Kennedy asked the state appeals court to overturn the conviction, partly because Wayne County Judge Craig Strong had refused to appoint an expert at public expense.
