Authorities in Battle Creek say no one was hurt when a fire broke out in an apartment house last night.

Fire crews responded to the scene on Freemont Street shortly before 7:30 p.m.

First responders found the fire in the first floor hallway and worked to put it out while searching the apartments for any occupants.

Investigators say the smoke detectors were working and everyone made it out safely.  Damage is estimated at $60,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
