Not 21, You Can’t Smoke but You Can Go To War
There was a package of bills introduced into the Michigan House of Representatives that would make it illegal to sell or provide tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21.
House Bill 4736, would increase the minimum age to sell, give or furnish tobacco products to minors to 21 years of age and change the infraction from a misdemeanor crime to a civil infraction. The bill’s sponsor was state Representative Tommy Brann, R-Wyoming.
And…
House Bill’s 4737-39, would regulate the storage and access to tobacco products, prohibit the sale of tobacco products by mail and prohibit tobacco vending machines. The bill’s Sponsors are state Representatives: Abdullah Hammoud, D-Dearborn, John Bizon, R-Battle Creek, Terry Sabo, D-Muskegon.
These bill’s would also ban tobacco product vending machines, online sales of cigarettes and change the infraction for selling to a minor from a misdemeanor crime to a civil infraction.
I have a very simply question, if a person is mature enough to join the armed services and put their life on the line for us at the age of 18 then why are they not mature enough to decide if they want to smoke?
Today you are an adult at the age of 18 to smoke, 21 to buy alcohol and at the age of 26 to have to buy health insurance on your own.
If smoking is that bad for you, and it is, then why not ban it,
