Don't throw that Nokia "candy bar" phone away just yet!

Who could have seen this coming?  Apparently, old school cell phones are making a comeback, and people are getting rid of their smart phones because they want "dumb" phones!

A recent survey by the Daily Mail found respondents had a number of reasons they would prefer a dumb phone over a smart phone.

My personal opinion is best summed up with the words of Albert Einstein.

“I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction.  The world will have a generation of idiots.”

I tend to believe that SOME people are finally getting that.  How many times have you seen a group of people (not just kids) sitting around a table, texting or playing a game and NOT paying any attention to the others at the table?  Mr. Einstein's point made.

But beyond my high minded suggestion, there may be some very practical reasons to prefer a dumb phone over a smart device.  So, why would you want a phone with a tiny black-and-white screen that doesn't have a keyboard or apps or the Internet?  There are three main reasons ;

1.  The battery can last for days , maybe even a whole week without having to charge.

2.  They're WAY tougher.  You see people walking around all the time with iPhones that have cracked screens.  Old phones were indestructible compared to that.

3.  It helps you break that feeling of being TOO connected.  Some people find it freeing not to have every email, Facebook message, or tweet immediately show up in front of them.

Even if you don't want to go back to an old phone, there's some good news for you here.  If you still have your old phone, you might be able to get good money for it on eBay.

Unless it's that old bag-phone that you had back in 1995.  Pitch that one.
