One Man Dead in Pennfield Fire

One man is dead and more than 50 people are homeless after an apartment fire this morning in Pennfield.   Reports say 66 Year old Walter Bell fell from a third floor balcony and later died from his injuries.  Officials say the fire started shortly before 9am on the second floor and spread quickly.  Crews fought the fire for more than 3 hours.

 

Several people were trapped inside the building and had to be rescued.   Amber Day and her son were trapped on the third floor and tells WWMT that she had to drop her toddler off the balcony and then jump herself.

Several people caught 1-year old Jalen, and the woman jumped to safety after him.

Officials are still investigating to find the cause of the fire. The Red Cross is taking donations to help the tenants at 269-353-6180.
