A man who owns hotels in Battle Creek and Coldwater has now agreed to pay back wages to his employees.

MLive reports that the US Attorney’s Office in West Michigan out of Grand Rapids says Monday that 31-year-old Mehul "Mike" Patel has agreed to pay over $150,000 to the Department of Labor, who will then give the funds to employees of the Rodeway Inn of Battle Creek and the Super 8 of Coldwater.

In 2014, the Department of Labor found that Patel had violated minimum wage law, and he then agreed to pay his employees what they were owed; however, the DOL says that Patel then forced his employees to give him that money back shortly after the checks were cashed.

In May of this year, Patel was sentenced to two months in jail after he pleaded guilty to lying to the federal government.
