An area schoolgirl was seriously injured Friday, after being struck by a car.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Pennfield Road in front of Pennfield Middle School around 2:30pm Friday, after witnesses reported the accident.  Initial investigation shows that the student was walking across the road, when she was struck by a vehicle headed eastward.

The girl was thrown away from the vehicle in the impact, and landed in the street.

An Air Lift crew was called in, to transport the victim to Bronson Kalamazoo, where she remains in serious condition.  The Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.
