A multi-car crash occurred Thursday evening at the intersection of B Drive North and M-66, sending six people to the hospital.

The incident was the result of local police agencies pursuing armed men who had just fled from the Meijer store.

Two detectives, one from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and one from the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety, were in the Meijer parking lot after responding to the call of a suspected retail fraud.

The detectives spotted the men who ignored their commands. One of the suspects reached into his waistband for a gun, while entering the car. The car then sped-off at a high rate of speed, going westbound on B Drive North, towards M-66.

The suspect’s car then collided with three other vehicles at the intersection of M-66 and B Drive North, sending six people to the hospital, One of the victims remains in critical condition.

One man attempted to flee the scene, but was quickly apprehended, armed with a handgun.

The two suspects are both from Kalamazoo and are now residing at the Calhoun County Jail on multiple charges.
