A man was rescued by Battle Creek Police, after plunging his car into the Kalamazoo River, late Saturday night.

At approximately 12:45 am, officers responded to a report of a single car accident in the area of Dickman Rd and Capital Ave SW. A witness stated that a vehicle left the roadway and went into the river. Further information revealed that the vehicle was occupied by one male subject.

When officers arrived on scene, the occupant was out of the vehicle and was observed floating down the river. At that time the occupant could be heard yelling that he could not swim and felt that his ankle was broken. Several officers surrounded the area in an attempt to find a place to pull the subject out of the water. One Battle Creek Officer was able to get into position, go into the water and rescue the male subject by pulling him to the riverbank.

The injured male was transported to Bronson Battle Creek for treatment. The accident is currently under investigation.
