Tips from a national watchdog group led to the arrest of a Quincy man for child pornography charges.

The Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Marshall MSP worked together on an investigation after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children discovered tips that could point to the making of child porn in the area. After a search of a Branch County home and of computers owned by 50-year-old Dale Otis Jr, as well as an interview with him, investigators say that he sexually assaulted a child and made images of it.

Otis Jr. was arrested, and has been arraigned on charges including child sexually abusive activity, the manufacture, possession, and distribution of child porn, and using a computer to commit a crime. Further information about the abuse wasn’t released.

The MSP wants to remind parents to talk to their kids about safe online practices, and recommend missingkids.org for a “comprehensive list of resources”.
