Apparently the United Nations climate chief Christiana Figueres believes humanity “really should make every effort” to reduce global population trends to protect the environment and fight global warming as she recently  stated in an interview with Climate One and as being reported by the Daily Caller.

The United Nations has predicted that our global population will reach 9 billion people by 2050, our current global population is approximately 7.2 billion people.

This 9 billion population number scares many environmentalists; apparently they have trouble sleeping at night worrying about this.

Many people who worry about over population seem to think about the increased numbers in today’s environment.  Meaning they do not take into consideration advancement in technology, farming and water supplies.

We are reminded in the article that the United Nations argued in 2013 that more people should eat insects for protein and help the environment by reducing the demand for traditional meats from cows, chickens and pigs.

They were quoted as saying in a U.N. report that “Insects are everywhere and they reproduce quickly, and they have high growth and feed conversion rates and a low environmental footprint.”

Yum pass me the cockroaches please.

Environmentalist have been calling for population control for decades but those calls reduced some in the 1980s and 90s after predictions of ecological collapse from overpopulation failed to materialize.

Now people like former Vice President Al Gore and Microsoft founder Bill Gates have said “fertility management” was the key to fighting global warming and have been pushing for the use of birth control to keep birth rates down in developing countries.

Last winter Al Gore said at the World Economic Forum “Depressing the rate of child mortality, educating girls, empowering women and making fertility management ubiquitously available … is crucial to the future shape of human civilization.”

Do you believe we need to control the population of the world?

How would you go about doing that?

Who decides who has children and how many?

Should we start with those who can afford them?  That would not be fair to people, would it?

Let’s discuss this tomorrow (Tuesday) on my show the Live with Renk show, which airs Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to noon, to let me know your thoughts at (269) 441-9595.

Or please feel free to start a discussion and write your thoughts in the comment section.
