As another Battle Creek Bombers season inches closer, the Battle Creek Parks and Recreation Department opened their gates to C.O. Brown Stadium for an Open House Saturday.

The ballpark's current tenants, the Kellogg Community College Bruins, hosted the Glen Oaks Community College Vikings for their second doubleheader against each other in as many days. It was a fantastic afternoon for the Bruins, as they swept the Vikings 7-0 and 3-1 to stay undefeated in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association's West Division race.

C.O. Brown Stadium Open House

The Parks and Recreation Department also offered the games as an open house to all the recent modifications at C.O. Brown Stadium. New blue and green paint throughout the concourse and outside the stadium are obvious, baseball fans will recognize some other small renovations that will be noticed immediately.

Stadium Improvements

On the concourse, new cement was poured under the grandstand, while the asphalt down the outfield concourse was resealed. Another high mark is the restrooms, where they received new fixtures and paint (pictured above). The locker rooms were also renovated, along with new showers The ventilation was also improved in the locker rooms and restrooms. One other thing that will be unnoticed is the improvement of the flat roofs above the concession stands, locker rooms and restrooms.

Once you get to the seating area under the grandstand, additional tables are still being constructed towards the backstop behind the plate and extending down both lines. The most noticeable change is the safety netting, which is all new. The netting now extends above the dugouts and down to first and third base, respectively. The netting behind home plate still extends up to the roof of the grandstand, but the extended netting stands 10 feet above the dugouts.

The department also will be taking out the first couple rows along the third base side to accommodate new box seats that will sit higher that those closer to the dugout. For the second straight year, the first-base side will be covered during Bombers games. This was due to some fans facing the sun during evening contests.

The Bombers open their 2017 season Tuesday, May 30th, when they host the Lakeshore Chinooks. Kellogg Community College has five remaining home games this regular season, including Jackson College, Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Grand Rapids Community College. There are also a couple high school games scheduled at C.O. Brown Stadium, including Climax-Scotts and Benton Harbor (May 2nd) and Battle Creek Central battling St. Philip (May 8th).
