Memorial Day, was originally called Decoration Day. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those brave men and women who have died in service of the United States of America.   Men and women who have died fighting for our freedom and liberty that we enjoy each day.

During World War II, decoration day was renamed Memorial Day to honor all Americans who died in military service. This day became a national holiday in 1971.

Did you know that In December 2000, Congress passed a law requiring Americans to pause at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day to remember and honor the fallen.

Remember them today.  Give thanks for what they gave up for all of us still enjoying the freedom and liberty they gave their lives for .

In all the U.S. Wars more than 1.1 million people have given their lives for our country and their fellow solders.  Approximately 500,000 died during the Civil War and another 405,000 died during WW II.

The deadlest battle ever fought in U.S. history was during WW I in the Battle of the Argonne Forest in which over 26,000 Americans died. Did you know that during World War II, approximately 12% of the total U.S. population were a part of the armed forces.  Today less than 1% serve in our active forces and the reserves.
