One of Calhoun County’s state representatives won’t be in Lansing for a while, after suffering injuries in a car crash.

On Tuesday, the public was made aware that Representative David Maturen had been driving to Battle Creek Friday afternoon, to participate in the Cereal Parade. While in Climax Township, Maturen says he swerved to avoid a car turning left, and ended up leaving the roadway.

MLive says that Maturen suffered injuries to his leg and several broken ribs, although he is expected to recover. The Republican Representative says he hopes to be well enough to attend session next week, the last few session days before the legislature takes a lengthy summer recess.

He was elected to serve his second term last November in Michigan’s 63rd District, which covers eastern Kalamazoo County and Southern Calhoun County.
