The second trial for a Battle Creek man accused of murder in the death of a 3-year-old girl in 2011 has concluded with the same outcome.

After two days of deliberations, Leo Ackley was found guilty of first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of Bailee Stenman. Ackley was granted a new trial after Ackley’s lawyer in the first trial never called an expert witness to prove that there wasn’t enough evidence to show how Stenman died. The argument still remained that Stenman died by accident instead of severe head trauma.

Ackley was originally sentenced for life in the first case. A sentencing date following this trial has not been determined.
