Users of the Ott trail in Battle Creek will find a new deterrent in place to keep snowmobiles off the trail.

The Calhoun County Trailway Alliance has installed bollards at bridge crossings on the Ott. The Alliance says snowmobile traffic can ruin the trail, broadwalks and bridge surfaces. Further, the Trailway Alliance asks those who might be walking or skiing the trail to call 911 should they encounter a snowmobile rider as it's illegal to have a snow machine on the trail system.

The trails in the Ott Biological Preserve are part of a 51 mile collection of trails across Calhoun County that connects to the Kal-Haven Trail and larger trail systems like the North County Trail, Iron Belle Trail and Great Lake to Lake Trail.

The bollards will be removed in spring.
