Extra time will still be needed to reach your destination on Wednesday morning, but conditions on main roads in west Michigan have been improving. Crews were able to work into the night, while the pace of lake effect snow dissipated around Calhoun County.

Main roads like Columbia Avenue and Helmer Road have one to two lanes open, with pavement visible. Some areas of those roads, though, still have snow cover because of winds. Secondary roads remain snow covered and slippery.

The National Weather Service forecast for Battle Creek still indicates more snow is possible Wednesday, perhaps an inch or two, as the day goes on. Conditions to the west of Calhoun County are still tenuous, with heavier lake effect covering roads in the usual bands. Later in the week, warming temperatures are threatening to bring a wintry mix and rain Friday into Saturday.

Dennis Hodges will continue to update the forecast on WBCK.
