Michigan beats CMU

Michigan beat CMU 72-65 on Monday night.  Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman scored 17 points and Charles Matthews and Zavier Simpson each scored 13.  Moe Wagner added 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolverines.

WMU Loses

South Carolina beat WMU 78-60 on Monday.  Western Michigan’s Thomas Wilder led all scorers with 21.

Volleyball Districts

St. Philip takes on defending state champion and top-ranked Plymouth Christian Academy tonight in a Class D state quarterfinal at Kalamazoo Central.

Bronson takes on Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central tonight at Loy Norrix High School.

The winners advance to the state semifinals at Kellogg Arena starting Thursday.

MLB Rookie of the Year

Major League Baseball has announced its American and National League rookies of the year, and both were unanimous decisions.  Aaron Judge is the first New York Yankee rookie winner since Derek Jeter in 1996. Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi finished second in the balloting, followed by Orioles slugger Trey Mancini.

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Cody Bellinger came away with the NL Rookie of the Year Award. Bellinger is the second consecutive Dodger to receive the honor and the 18th since Jackie Robinson won the first award in 1947.

KCC Basketball Wednesday

KCC’s Men’s basketball team plays on the road for their next three beginning tomorrow as they play at Henry Ford Community College.

Monday Night Football

The Carolina Panthers are heading into their bye week just a half-game behind the first-place New Orleans Saints in the NFC South.

The Panthers rolled up a team-record 548 total yards in a 45-21 pounding of the Miami Dolphins.  Cam Newton provided much of that yardage by providing 254 yards through the air and 95 on the ground as the Panthers improve to 7-3.

Lions

The Lions head to Chicago this Sunday following their win over Cleveland.

The Minnesota Vikings lead the division at 7-2.  The Lions and Packers are 5-4.

Pistons

The Pistons travel to Milwaukee for their next game on Wednesday night.

High School Football Playoffs

Harper Creek plays Muskegon at East Kentwood on Saturday with a chance to go to the state finals on November 25th at Ford Field.  We’ll have the game on the radio this Saturday at 12:35pm on 95.3 WBCK.

College Football

This Saturday, MSU plays Maryland.  Broadcast time is 4pm, following High School Football on 95.3 WBCK.

Michigan has won three straight since its midseason slump. The Wolverines won easily over Rutgers, Minnesota and Maryland to climb back to No. 19.  Michigan is at Wisconsin on Saturday.   Hear the game at 11am on 104.9 the Edge.

The Red Wings host the Calgary Flames on Wednesday at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit, as the try to break a two game losing streak.

Wood Signed to KCC Cross Country Team

Lakeview senior Maggie Wood has signed a National Letter of Intent to run cross-country at Kellogg Community College and will begin running for the Bruins next season.  Wood is the first student-athlete to sign on to run for the Bruins' new cross-country program, which will begin competing next fall.    Wood has earned All-Region, All-Conference and All-City honors while running with the Spartans.

Soccer

Four-time champion Italy has failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in six decades.

The Italians lost its playoff to Sweden 1-0 on aggregate after playing to a scoreless draw on Monday. Italy's only other exclusion in World Cup was in 1958.
