Red Wings

The Red Wings host Arizonatonight.  Detroithas dropped three of its last five games, but won its last outing 2-1 against St. Louisin overtime Sunday.  Justin Abdelkader is having his best season, scoring his 20th goal on Sunday.  Center Pavel Datsyuk skated with the team during practice yesterday after missing the last three games with a lower body injury. He is not expected to play against Arizonatonight.   The Wings have 89 points and are 6th in the Eastern Conference.

 

Tigers

The Detroit Tigers were off Monday and play the Yankees tonight inTampa. Anibal Sanchez, coming off his best outing of the spring, will start forDetroit.  First baseman Miguel Cabrera is expected to be in the lineup tonight as the designated hitter.  Cabrera, who had surgery on his foot and ankle in the offseason, made his spring debut Sunday.   Manager Brad Ausmus said if there are no setbacks, he has a better than 50-percent chance to play on Opening Day.   Detroit DH Victor Martinez also saw his first game action on Sunday.Martinezis working his way back from knee surgery and is not sure about his Opening Day status, saying he just needs to prepare for the season now.   The Tigers are 7-14 and in the cellar of the Grapefruit League.  The Yankees are 12-9 and tied for second. We’ll broadcast the game, starting at 7pm on WBCK.

 

Pistons

The Pistons are back in action tonight when they host the Toronto Raptors. Detroithas won its last two games but are in fifth place in the Central Division.  They are five-games out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the East, with 12 games left in the regular season.

High School Basketball

In Boys Basketball, the state quarterfinals are tonight.   Otsego takes onMilantonight in a Class B game.   Muskegonwill play Lansing Everett in Class A.   Muskegonforward Deyonta Davis, was just named the Mr. Basketball award winner yesterday.  The 6-foot-ten inch senior is headed toMichiganStatenext season.

 

Lions Draft

The Detroit Lions will not receive any compensatory picks for the 2015 draft. The NFL distributed the list of extra picks on Monday, but after adding more help in free agency than they lost, the Lions didn't get any additional picks for the April 30th draft.

The Seahawks, Broncos and Chiefs are being awarded four compensatory picks in next month's NFL Draft. The league announced a total of 32 compensation picks for 14 teams.  The picks are positioned in rounds three through seven. The 2015 NFL Draft starts April 30th.
