Big Ten Football

Michigan State Spartans takes on unbeaten Ohio State in Columbus this Saturday …2pm on WBCK. The Spartans prevailed in 2013.   OSU won last year and ended up national champion.

Red Wings

The Red host the LA Kings tonight.  Center Brad Richards, who missed 13 games with a back issue and Brendan Smith, who has been sidelined for five games due to an illness, both practiced yesterday and could take the ice against the Kings.

Head coach Jeff Blashill said yesterday that Petr Mrazek will get the start in goal tonight and Jimmy Howard will be in net against the Blues in St. Louis tomorrow.

Pistons

The Pistons play the Timberwolves tonight in Minnesota. Guard Brandon Jennings continues to work his way back to the lineup as he recovers from Achilles tendon surgery.  He took part in full-court scrimmages yesterday and head coach Stan Van Gundy said Jennings is on a timetable to return in late December.

College Basketball
Michigan hosts Xavier tonight.  Michigan State hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Broadcast time is 6pm on Mix 104.9 WBXX.  MSU hosts EMU this Monday at 6pm on WBCK. Paula Garrett won two tickets on WBCK.

Thursday Night Football

Andre Branch's sack of Marcus Mariota on the final play of regulation clinched the Jaguars, 19-13, win over the Titans in Jacksonville on "Thursday Night Football."

MLB MVP

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson is the American League's Most Valuable Player. Donaldson beat out Angels outfielder Mike Trout. Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera finished 11th in the voting, and J.D. Martinez finished in 15th.

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is the National League's Most Valuable Player.

Nascar

Nascar’s Chase for the Sprint Cup championship happens this Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. and Jeff Gordon will battle it out.

Volleyball

The St. Philip Fighting Tigers play Saturday for a 10th straight Class D State title at Kellogg Arena. The second-ranked Tigers beat the top-ranked Plymouth Christian Eagles 3-1 Thursday at Kellogg Arena. St. Phillip lost game 1, 24-26 and won game 1, 25-23. But they fell behind 16-10 in game 3.   After a time out, it was all St. Phillip. Abby McKinzie led St. Phil with 25 kills and 17 digs. The Tigers play Leland, which beat Forest Park 3-1, in Saturday morning’s 10am State Final. The Tigers topped Leland last year for their ninth straight championship.

Class C No. 1 ranked Bronson will face Traverse City St. Francis today at 2 p.m.  The Class C final is Saturday at noon.

Class B Harper Creek will play in the Class B semifinals tonight at 7:15 p.m. against No. 8-ranked North Branch at the Kellogg Arena.   The Class B final will be at 4pm Saturday.

High School Football

St. Phillip plays Powers North Central at Greenville on Friday night for the 8-Player Division crown. Broadcast time is 6:35pm on WBCK.

Coldwater plays Chelsea at the state semi-final tomorrow at 1pm in Jackson.

Lions

The Lions have named Rod Wood as the team's new president. He has worked with the organization for the past eight years as CEO of Ford Estates. In announcing the move Thursday, Lions owner Martha Firestone Ford said she is confident Wood is the right person to fill the position. She also announced the creation of the General Manager search advisory board, which includes the team's board of directors and Wood.

The Lions are home to play Oakland this Sunday. Receiver Calvin Johnson, cornerback Nevin Lawson, defensive tackle Gabe Wright and safety Don Carey did not practice yesterday because of injuries. Broadcast time is 12 pm on WBCK.
