Tigers

The Tigers let one get away to the Royals in Kansas City on Wednesday night to break their four game win streak.  Justin Verlander pitched another gem, pitching seven innings and striking out eight, while allowing two runs.  But Verlander left with the Tigers down 2-1. In the 9th inning, after a walk to Victor Martinez, the Tigers went ahead on a home run by Mikie Mahtook to go up 3-2. But in the bottom of the 9th, closer Justin Wilson didn’t have it.  He issued a 1-out walk to Alcides Escobar on four pitches.   Brandon Moss doubled and went to third as Escobar scored the tying run.   Then Moss trotted home on Alex Gordon’s sacrifice fly.

The Indians lost to the Giants, so the Tigers are still 5 games back in the Central division.  The Twins had a 6-1 win over the Yankees for their first home series win against the Yanks in nine years. Minnesota is a half game out of first and will host the Tigers this weekend.

Michael Fulmer gets the start in game four tonight in Kansas City.   Hear it at 7:50, on 95.3 WBCK.
