Lions

Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell remains….for now.   The rest of the top brain-trust has been shown the door. The Lions have fired GM Martin Mayhew and Team President Tom Lewand. Team owner Martha Firestone Ford, has named vice president of pro personnel Shelton White as interim General Manager. The 1-7 Lions don’t play until a week from Sunday when they’ll head to Green Bay.

Thursday Night Football

The Cincinnati Bengals are the NFL first team to get to 8-and-0 as the Bengals routed the rival Cleveland Browns, 31-10, on "Thursday Night Football". Andy Dalton threw three touchdown passes to Tyler Eifert. Johnny Manziel threw for 168 yards and a touchdown for the Browns, who dropped to 2-and-7.

College Football

The WMU Broncos had a school-record 711 yards of offense in a 54-7 win over Ball State. With the win, WMU became bowl eligible for the second consecutive season and improved to 5-0 in MAC play for the first time since 2000. Corey Davis sparked the WMU offense in the first half as he caught seven passes for 163 yards and a career-high three touchdowns in the first half.  Zach Terrell finished 16-for-22 for 324 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He completed 12 consecutive passes at one point in the first half.  The Broncos rushed for 358 yards and were led by Jamauri Bogan with 171 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.  Western Michigan (6-3) has scored at least 35 points in five consecutive games for the first time in program history.

Michigan takes on Rutgers in Ann Arbor. Wolverines quarterback Jake Rudock is expected to start after getting knocked out of last week's game at Minnesota with bruised ribs. Broadcast time for Michigan versus Rutgers… 2:30 on Mix 104.9.

Eastern Michigan is at Miami of Ohio.   CMU hosts Toledo on Tuesday.

College Basketball
The 25th-ranked Michigan Wolverines host an exhibition basketball game tonight verses Le Moyne. Michigan State is back in action against Ferris State on Monday night at the Breslin Center in its second and final exhibition game.

Red Wings

The Red Wings face their former coach Mike Babcock and the Maple Leafs in Toronto tonight.

Pistons

The Pistons are out West for six games, starting tonight in Phoenix.

Volleyball

St. Phillip beat Tekonsha in 3 to win the Class D district final at Bellevue. Morgan Luoma with 14 kills, five assists and three digs. The Fighting Tigers advance to face Pittsford in Tuesday's regional semifinal at Adrian Lenawee Christian.

Gull Lake beat Lakeview in a four-set championship match.

Top-ranked Bronson defeated Union City in three. Bronson will host Tuesday's regional semifinal against Bridgeman.

Climax-Scotts moved on with a five-set comeback victory over Athens. The Panthers advance to Tuesday's regional semifinal at Mendon against St. Joseph Michigan Catholic.

Cross Country

The St. Phillip girls’ cross country team will run in the state championship meet at MIS this Saturday at 10am. The St. Philip girls are one of seven area teams to advance to MIS along with 13 local individual qualifiers. Ava Strenge is the defending cross country state champion in Division 4.

Lakeview's Maggie Farrell qualified for this weekend's state meet.   So did Marshall's Abbey Ufkes and Rachel Schoepke and Delton Kellogg's Maranda Donahue.

The Olivet and Delton Kellogg girls' qualified for state, as did the Gull Lake girls and boys teams. The Bronson and Coldwater boys’ runners are in. Three members of the St. Phil boys team will also run on Saturday, beginning at 11am.

High School Football

St. Philip tries to stay unbeaten as they host Lawrence tonight at C.W. Post Field in a rematch of the final regular season game. St. Philip has been knocked out of the playoffs each of the last two years by Lawrence. Broadcast time is 6:35 tonight on WBCK.

Climax-Scotts hosts Pittsford.

Vicksburg is at Coldwater.

Homer will host Dansville.

Tigers Prospect Suspended

Detroit Tigers shortstop prospect JaCoby Jones has been suspended for 50 games following a positive test for a drug of abuse under baseball's minor league drug program. The Tigers got the 23 year old Jones from Pittsburgh last summer for pitcher Joachim Soria. Jones had been playing in the Arizona Fall League.

Nascar

Driver Joey Logano is looking to keep his chase hopes alive as NASCAR heads to the Texas Motor Speedway.
