Baseball

The Kansas City Royals and New York Mets are each a win away from the World Series. Daniel Murphy homered for the fifth straight playoff game as the Mets knocked off the Cubs, 5-2, in Game Three of the National League Championship Series in Chicago. The turning point in the game came in the Mets’ half of the 6th, as former Tiger Yoenis Cespedes singled, was sacrificed to second and then stole third. Cespedes then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch strikeout, as Cubs catcher Miguel Montero couldn’t handle the pitch in the dirt. Jacob deGrom earned his third win of the postseason for the Mets.

New York can sweep the best-of-seven set with a victory tonight at 8.

The Royals cranked out 15 hits in a 14-2 rout of the Blue Jays in Game Four of the American League Championship Series in Toronto.  Alex Rios went 3-for-3 with a homer for the Royals, as they pounded knuckleballer R.A. Dickey.   KC can secure a spot in the Fall Classic for the second straight year with a win today at 4pm.

Lions

The Lions host the Vikings this Sunday. The Lions promoted running back George Winn from the practice squad to take the place of rookie Zach Zenner. Zenner was placed on season-ending injured reserve after he suffered broken ribs and a partially collapsed lung in last Sunday's win over Chicago.

Red Wings

The Red Wings are in Edmonton tonight. Petr Mrazek will get the start in goal against the Oilers. Detroit will visit Calgary and Vancouver before returning home to face off against the Carolina Hurricanes next Tuesday.

Pistons

The Pistons return to preseason action as they host the Charlotte Hornets at The Palace tonight. Detroit heads into the game after a 96-92 loss to the Spurs in San Antonio Sunday. The Pistons are 2-4 in exhibition play and wrap up the preseason Friday at home against the Hawks.

Drummond-Pistons

Pistons center Andre Drummond will delay talks about his new contract until next summer instead of signing an extension with the team before the November 2nd deadline. The move will leave Detroit with almost 13-million-dollars in cap space heading into next season's free agency. Drummond and Pistons owner Tom Gores met late last month about the 22-year-old's next contract and the center said they both have an understanding of what's best for the team.

College Football

Michigan punter Blake O'Neill walked in front of media cameras and recorders inside Schembechler Hall last night for the first time since Saturday’s botched punt led to an MSU last second win.   The Australian native didn't appear nervous. He wasn't in shock. He wore a smile on his face throughout, and politely thanked everyone for coming. Reports say O'Neill handled it with maturity and perspective. Michigan is off this weekend. Michigan State hosts Indiana at Spartan Stadium Saturday.
