Maryland is right behind at No. 2.  Michigan State senior guard Denzel Valentine has been named Big Ten Player of the Week for the third time this season. Tigers

The Tigers and outfielder J.D. Martinez have reportedly come to an agreement on a new two-year contract. According to reports, the deal is worth 18.5 million, pending a physical.  Last season, Martinez batted .282 with 38 home runs, 33 doubles and 102 RBI and was named an All-Star for the first time in his career. Last month, the team and the outfielder were two-million-dollars apart in salary filings, but the new deal means the Tigers will avoid arbitration hearings for the 15th straight year.

Tuesday morning,  the Tigers’ Spring Training Equipment Truck pulled out from Lot 3 at Comerica Park, bound for Tiger Town.  There are only 9 Days until pitchers and catchers report to Lakeland.

The Associated Press (AP) and Michigan Radio Network contributed to this report.
