Former Tiger Dave Bergman Dies
Former Tiger Dave Bergman, a member of the World Champion 1984 team, has lost a three-year battle with cancer. Bergman played nine seasons in Detroit and played 17 big-league seasons with the Yankees, Astros, Giants and Tigers. Bergman is most known for the 1984 season, when he hit .273 with seven home runs and 44 RBIs. Many Tiger fans remember his 13-pitch at bat against the Toronto Blue Jays on June 4 at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers released a statement on the 61 year old’s passing: "Dave was as spirited a person as he was a player. He will forever hold a special place in Tigers history for the versatile roles he played, and his significant contributions as a member of the 1984 World Champion Tigers. We will miss seeing “Bergie” at the ballpark and in the community.”
