Michael Fulmer was brilliant on the mound and the Tigers beat the Angels 3-0 to stop a 4-game losing streak.  Fulmer took a no-hitter into the 7th inning and left the game with two outs in the 8th, giving up just two hits and striking out 8 to improve to 5-1.  Fulmer did not allow a hit until C.J. Cron's broken-bat single on a 98 mile per hour fastball with two outs in the seventh. Francisco Rodriguez came in and got the final four outs for his 15th save. Nick Castellanos had 3 hits.  Victor Martinez and Jose Iglesias each had two, as the Tigers chipped away against Angels starter and Michigan native Matt Shoemaker.

The Tigers head home for a make-up game with the Yankees tonight.   Lefty Matt Boyd gets the start.  Broadcast time is 7:15 on WBCK.  The White Sox come in for three games starting Friday.  Friday’s game is at 6:45 on WBCK.

Tigers Send Sanchez to the Bullpen

The Tigers have removed struggling 11-year veteran Anibal Sanchez from the rotation. Manager Brad Ausmus said Wednesday he was making the move after the right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks Tuesday to the Angels. The 32-year-old Sanchez is 3-6 with a 6.67 ERA and has surrendered a baseball-high 14 home runs.

Tigers Call Up ex-Met Closer Parnell

The Tigers have purchased the contract of right-handed reliever Bobby Parnell from Triple-A Toledo. The Tigers announced the move Wednesday as they put right-hander Warwick Saupold on the 15-day disabled list with a right groin strain. To make room for Parnell on the 40-man roster, the Tigers designated right-hander Jose Valdez for assignment.

Bombers

The Battle Creek Bombers lost to the Madison Mallards 10-5 at C.O. Brown Stadium on Wednesday.   The Bombers got behind early, as the Mallards pounded out 20 hits on the day. Bombers starting pitcher Scott Sency struggled in one inning of work, allowing five runs on five hits.  Battle Creek will host the rival Kalamazoo Growlers on Thursday at 7:05pm.

WMU to NCAA Baseball Regionals

The WMU baseball team is headed to the NCAA Tournament.  The Broncos got in to the tourney by winning their first MAC tournament title. Western Michigan opens play in Louisville on Friday against Ohio State in the double-elimination regional.

NHL

The Pittsburgh Penguins are halfway to their second Stanley Cup championship since 2009.  Conor Sheary scored at 2:35 of overtime to give the Penguins a 2-1 win over the Sharks as they take a 2-0 series lead to San Jose for Saturday night's Game 3.

NBA

After winning a thrilling seven-game series against Oklahoma City on Monday, the Golden State Warriors have the home-court edge for tonight's opener of the NBA Finals against Cleveland. It’s a rematch of last year's championship won by the Warriors in six games.   Game 2 is Sunday night in Oakland.  Game 3 will be Wednesday in Cleveland.

U of M QB Charges Dropped

A charge accusing Michigan redshirt freshman quarterback Alex Malzone of altering a driver's license has been dismissed. According to the Detroit Free Press, court records show the city attorney entered a motion to dismiss the charge Tuesday. Malzone, who played high school football at Detroit’s Brother Rice, did not play at all for the Wolverines in 2015.

Karmanos Family Turmoil

Carolina Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos Junior is being sued by three of his sons for more than $100 million.  The lawsuit was filed last week in a court in Oakland County, Michigan, where Karmanos Junior lives.  The sons contend their father did not repay a loan he took out in 2013 from a limited partnership he created with them.

French Open

Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams lead the charge into the French Open quarterfinals. Andy Murray and defending champ Stan Wawrinka also reached the semifinals.  Djokovic finished his rain-delayed match and Williams won easily, but sister Venus and fellow American Madison Keys were beaten.

Pro Bowl to Move

The NFL has confirmed that the Pro Bowl is leaving Honolulu for Orlando following this season.  Officials say the league's all-star game will be played at Camping World Stadium, which is formerly the Citrus Bowl, for the next three years. The stadium has recently undergone a $200 million renovation.  With the exception of two years, the Pro Bowl had been played in Hawaii since 1979.
