Tigers

The Tigers dropped their eighth straight, losing a 2-1 game to the Royals in Kansas City.   Anibal Sanchez pitched well once again, but Tiger batters hit into five double plays and managed to score just one run.  Ian Kinsler had two hits and knocked in the only Tigers’ run.  It was Kinsler’s 600th plate appearance this season, vesting his contract for next year at $11 million.  Sanchez pitched six innings, scattering 7 hits and striking out 6. He walked one and didn’t allow any home runs.  It was his third straight quality start.  Jason Vargas tied for the major league lead with his 18th victory for the Royals, who were eliminated from the playoffs last night.  Several of the Royals’ top players will be free agents next season.  After two more in Kansas City, the Tigers will play their final three games of the season in Minnesota this weekend.  The Twins have clinched at least a tie for the final wild card spot.  Jordan Zimmerman starts for the Tigers tonight in KC.  Hear the game at 7:50 on 95.3 WBCK.
