An investment group looking to revive the old USFL is eyeing Grand Rapids as a possible franchise location. Other possible locations include Salt Lake City and Tulsa for the league's eight teams, which would be made up from players cut from the rosters of NFL teams.

The first champions of the 1980s version of the USFL were the Michigan Panthers, who shared the Pontiac Silverdome with the Detroit Lions.
