Dodgers’ pitcher Clayton Kershaw is the National League Most Valuable Player.

He beat out Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton and 2013 winner Andrew McCutchen of the Pirates.  Kershaw won his second straight NL Cy Young Award on Wednesday and is the first to win both the Cy Young and MVP in the National League in the same season since Bob Gibson in 1968.  Denny McLain did it that same year for the Tigers.

The Angels' Mike Trout won the American League MVP Award.

Victor Martinez finished second in voting with Indians outfielder Michael Brantley coming in third.

Volleyball

The Harper Creek beat Buchanan 3-1 in the Class B Regional Final at Dowagiac. The game was moved from Edwardsburg due to a boil water advisory.

Olivia Leson had 21 kills and 12 digs; Charley Andrews had 22 kills, six digs and three blocks and Kendall Latshaw had 26 digs.

The Beavers will take on Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard at Parma Western in the State Quarterfinals on Tuesday at 6:30pm.

The eight-time Class D State champion St. Philip Tigers swept Camden-Frontier 3-0 on Thursday night in Hillsdale.  It was 25-15, 25-21, and 32-30. Abby McKinzie had 18 kills and 12 digs.  Megan Parker with 12 kills and 14 digs.

Mendon ended Climax-Scotts’ season last night with a 3-0 win.   Tuesday’s State Quarterfinal will be played at Lakeview, as St. Phillip plays Mendon.

Thursday Night Football

The Dolphins scored 19 unanswered points to sink the Bills 22-9 from Miami on Thursday Night Football.

KCC Men Lose

The KCC Men’s basketball team lost to Schoolcraft Community College, 86-57.  The Bruins were down 8 at the half.  Elijah Jackson and Mafiaion Joiner each had 15 for KCC.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons play at Oklahoma City tonight. The Pistons have lost three straight overall to fall to 2-and-6.   The Thunder are 3-6.

Red Wings

The Red Wings host Chicago tonight.  The Wings have been off since Sunday and have lost four of its last five games, while Chicago has won three-of-four.

High School Football

The Lakeview Spartans will travel to Muskegon to take on Mona Shores tonight. It’s the deepest that Lakeview has advanced in the playoffs since 1983.  Broadcast time is 6:35pm on WBCK.

College Basketball

The Spartan basketball team starts the regular season tonight against Navy.  We’ll join the game after High School Football tonight on WBCK.  Michigan plays Saturday against Hillsdale College.

College Football

#12 Michigan State plays on the road this Saturday against 6-and-3 Maryland. Michigan has the weekend off and will host Maryland a week from Saturday.  WMU hosts EMU this Saturday.

NASCAR

It Nascar’s final race of the season at Homestead.   Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin and Ryan Newman race for the Sprint Cup title.

Lions

The Lions play at Arizona this Sunday.   After Sunday, the 7-2 Lions are at New England on Thanksgiving Day.  After that, they’ll close out the season against division foes Tampa Bay, Minnesota, Green Bay and two games with Chicago.

Peterson Sits another Week

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will have to wait at least one more week to return to the playing field. NFL.com reports the league has scheduled his reinstatement hearing for 2 p.m. Eastern on Monday.   Peterson has been on the commissioner's exempt list and has not played since Week One of the season while the legal process played out in his child-abuse case.
The former NFL MVP pleaded no contest last week and was given two years' probation, a four-thousand fine and 80 hours of community service after disciplining his four-year-old son with a tree branch earlier this year.
