LeBron James had a triple-double and the Cleveland Cavaliers stayed postseason perfect through 10 games with a 108-89 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals. James had 23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists as the Cavs became the fourth team in NBA history to start 10-0 in the playoffs, joining the Los Angeles Lakers (1989, 2001) and San Antonio Spurs (2012).  Kyrie Irving scored 26 and Kevin Love 19 for Cleveland.  Game 3 is Saturday night in Toronto.

The NBA's Western Conference finals are tied at a game apiece.  The Thunder will host Golden State in Game 3 on Sunday in Oklahoma City.

Tigers

The Tigers were off Thursday, and host the Tampa Bay Rays for three games starting tonight. Anibal Sanchez starts for the Tigers on the 46th Annual Polish American Night.

Broadcast time is 6:45 on WBCK.  The Tigers will also host the Phillies next week Monday through Wednesday.

MLB

The twins have now lost their sixteenth game in their last nineteen after an extra-inning loss to the Blue Jays.

Chris Sale became the majors' first nine-game winner of the season, improving to 9-0 with a four-hitter in the Chicago White Sox's 2-1 victory over Houston.

The Chicago Cubs' major league-leading record dropped to 28-11 with their third loss in four games, 5-3 at Milwaukee.

NHL

Martin Jones stopped 20 shots and the San Jose Sharks grabbed a two-games-to-one lead in the NHL's Western Conference finals with a 3-0 win over St. Louis. Jones has stopped 58 straight shots in posting the first back-to-back playoff shutouts in Sharks history. Tomas Hertl scored twice, including the opening goal at 15:53 of the first period. Game 4 is Saturday night in San Jose.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a two-games-to-one lead in the NHL's Eastern Conference finals.   Game 4 is tonight in Tampa.

KCC Baseball

The KCC Bruins beat Cuyahoga CC 3-1 Thursday at the NJCAA Division II regional at Bailey Park.  The Bruins trailed early, but scored three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead.  Austin Gonser, Mitch Weber and Trevor Polewka all drove in runs for KCC.

Matt Pearsall earned the win for KCC, scattering three hits over eight innings and striking out nine.  KCC advances to the regional semifinals against Sinclair CC today at 11:30 a.m. at C.O. Brown Stadium.

High School Baseball

Coldwater and Harper Creek split a pair, with the Beavers winning game 1, 3-2 and losing the nightcap 1-0.  With the win, Coldwater finishes with a share of the Interstate 8 title, with Marshall and Jackson Lumen Christi.  All finish 11-3 in league play.

Marshall swept K-Central, 7-1 and 5-3.

Climax-Scotts beat Bellevue 8-2 and 1-0.

Softball

Harper Creek and Lakeview split.  The Beavers won 8-6 and the Spartans took game 2, 7-6.

Climax-Scotts beat Bellevue 14-1 and 7-6

Mendon swept Athens.

 

Girls’ Tennis

Marshall’s girl’s tennis team finished 3rd at the Division 3 regional at Stevensville Lakeshore.  Harper Creek was sixth, Coldwater was seventh, and Pennfield was eighth.

Magic Hire New Coach

The Orlando Magic has hired former Indiana Pacers' coach Frank Vogel as its new coach, replacing Scott Skiles, who stepped down.  When Vogel was in 8th grade in 1986, he was featured in an episode of David Letterman's Stupid Human Tricks, spinning a basketball on a toothbrush while brushing his teeth.

The second jewel in horse racing's triple crown, The Preakness, is Saturday.

Federer Out of French Open

One of tennis's biggest stars will be missing the French Open, ending a record streak.

Stewart-Haas Racing has signed Kevin Harvick to a long-term contract extension, ending speculation that the 2014 Sprint Cup champion wanted to leave.

MSU Spring Fling

MSU Alumni and friends are getting ready for the  2016 Calhoun County Spartans Spring Fling.   It’s next Wednesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Gallagher Uniform in the Fort.  MSU Co-offensive coordinator Dave Warner will be on hand for the event which supports three scholarships for Calhoun County residents.  Will Tieman, voice of the Spartan Sports Network will be the MC and it’s your chance to get a photo with Sparty!
