College Basketball

Michigan beat IUPUI 77-65.  Zak Irvin scored 15 points, Derrick Walton added 13.   The Wolverines (2-0) scored the final 13 points of the first half to take an 11-point lead.

Michigan State’s basketball team takes on #2 Kentucky on Tuesday night at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

WMU will travel to play Oakland tonight in Detroit.

NFL

Doug Baldwin had three touchdown receptions and the Seattle Seahawks used a goal-line stand to secure a 31-24 win over the New England Patriots in a Super Bowl rematch.

The Packers lost to Tennessee on Sunday, 47-25.   Marcus Mariota threw four touchdown passes for the Titans.   The Packers fall to 4-5.

The Vikings lost their 4th straight, 26-20 to Washington.

The 5-4 Lions are tied with Minnesota for first place in the NFC North.  Detroit was off this weekend and will play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at Ford Field.

 College Football

Ohio State and Louisville moved up behind No. 1 Alabama in The Associated Press college football poll after the most surprising Saturday of the season gave the rankings a major makeover.

Three of the top four (Michigan, Clemson and Washington), five of the top 10 and seven teams overall in last week's rankings lost to unranked opponents.

No. 4 Michigan and No. 5 Clemson each dropped two spots and No. 7 Washington fell three after losing for the first time. Wisconsin moved up a spot to No. 6.

Western Michigan remains at No. 14.  The Broncos play Buffalo this Saturday at Waldo Stadium.   ESPN's 'College GameDay' will broadcast live from Kalamazoo ahead of the Broncos' 3:30 p.m. matchup.   At 10-0, Western Michigan is one of two unbeaten teams remaining along with top-ranked Alabama.  Be listening for your chance to win tickets on WBCK.

Big Ten Football Race

Iowa has complicated the race for the Big Ten eastern division title with its win over Michigan. The upset means it's possible a two-loss team could represent the division in the conference title game with the possibility that Penn State could win the division. Michigan can shelve the possibility by winning out, including beating Ohio State.

EMU Bowl Eligible

Eastern Michigan is 6-4 and is bowl eligible for the first time since 1995. The last time EMU actually played in a bowl was in the 1987 California Bowl.   EMU went 1-11 last season, and in April, a student and faculty report called on the school to consider dropping football.

Pistons

The 5-5 Pistons host the 6-4 Oklahoma City Thunder tonight at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Detroit will stop in New York to play the Knicks on Wednesday.

Red Wings

The Red Wings host Tampa Bay at the Joe tomorrow night.  Jimmy Howard is expected to start in goal again for the Wings.   Detroit is coming off a 5-0 loss to Montreal on Saturday. Bob Kaser, the Griffins’ radio play-by-play man in his 17th season, was called up by the Red Wings to fill in for Ken Kal in the last two games, as Kal was out sick.

Volleyball

Jill Pyles finished with a match-high nine aces in leading Bronson to a 3-0  regional championship over Kalamazoo Christian.  With the victory, the defending state champion Vikings advance to Tuesday's state quarterfinal against ninth-ranked Laingsburg.

Mendon beat Athens to advance to play Plymouth Christian in the quarterfinal on Tuesday at Climax-Scotts High School.

NASCAR

Joey Logano raced his way into NASCAR's championship finale with a victory Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway. Defending series champion Kyle Busch finished second to earn the other transfer spot into the final four.   Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson will also race for the championship this Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
