\Michigan beat Bryant University 96-60 last night in Ann Arbor. Caris LeVert had 19 points and eight assists as Michigan finished its non-conference schedule. The Wolverines had five players in double figures as they prepare to open Big Ten play December 30th at Illinois. They also set a school record with 17 3-pointers.

Pistons/NBA

The Pistons lost 107-100 in Atlanta.    Andre Drummond led the Pistons with 25 points and 12 rebounds. His hook shot cut the lead to eight with 1:52 remaining, but he was called for goaltending with 41 seconds to go, pushing Atlanta back up by 10.

Marcus Morris had 22 points and Reggie Jackson scored 19 points as Detroit ended a three-game winning streak.

The Golden State Warriors have extended the greatest start in NBA history, improving to 27-1 with a 103-85 pounding of Utah.

The Philadelphia 76ers fell to 1-30 on the season with their 18th consecutive road loss.

 

Red Wings

There won't be any NHL games through Christmas as players get a break league-wide. The Red Wings start a three-game road trip when they return to action on Saturday night. Detroit will pay visits to Nashville, Minnesota and Winnipeg over a four-day stretch before returning home to host the Penguins next Thursday. Detroit is 17-10-and-7 on the year.

Lions

The final Lions' home game of 2016 is this Sunday when the San Francisco 49ers come to Ford Field. After a 1-and-7 start, the Lions have gone 4-and-2, but won't make a return trip to the playoffs in Jim Caldwell's second season.   The 49ers are 4-and-10 on the year, having lost four of their past five games.

Thursday Night Football

The final "Thursday Night Football" game of the season focuses on the AFC West as the San Diego Chargers visit the Oakland Raiders at O.co Coliseum. It will be the final home game for Raiders safety Charles Woodson, who announced earlier this week his 18th NFL season will be his last.

The contest could also be the final home game for the Raiders, who, like the Chargers, are a candidate to relocate to Los Angeles as early as next season.

College Football-MAC

WMU plays Middle Tennessee today at noon in Nassau in the Popeye’s Bahamas Bowl on ESPN.  WMU has never won a bowl game. Both teams are 7-5.

It was a rough day Wednesday for MAC teams in bowl action.

Boise State beat Northern Illinois 55-7 in the Poinsettia Bowl at San Diego.

Georgia Southern easily won the GoDaddy Bowl, 58-27 over Bowling Green.

The Central Michigan Chippewas will take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers Monday evening in the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field.

The 3rd-ranked Spartans will take on 2nd-ranked Alabama in the Cotton Bowl December 31st.

Boxer Dies

An Ohio boxing official says a Michigan-based fighter has died days after he collapsed and lost consciousness during his professional debut. Hamzah Ajahmi died Tuesday at a Youngstown hospital after undergoing brain surgery. A cousin of Ajahmi's tells the Detroit Free Press that Ajahmi fell in love with boxing as a child.
