Sports: Michigan wins at Maui; MSU gearing up
Michigan beat Chaminade 102-64 in the Maui Classic. Charles Matthews had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman scored 17 points. Michigan suffered a tough-to-take loss after playing LSU close in its opener. The Wolverines dominated the Division II Silverswords from the start to earn a spot in the fifth-place game. Michigan plays VCU today at 5pm. The Wolverines host UC Riverside on Sunday at 4pm at Crisler Center.
MSU heads to Portland on Thanksgiving to take on DePaul in the PK80 Tourney. Friday, MSU will take on either Connecticut or Oregon in the tourney, which continues thru Sunday.
The Western Bronco basketball team will host Northwood on Saturday.
The KCC Women’s basketball team lost to Trine University’s JV squad, 53-42 at the Battle Creek Central Fieldhouse. The Lady Bruins fall to 0-2. Coach Dic Doumanian says they were strong on defense but struggled on offense. Destiny Kincaide led KCC with 19.
The Red Wings host Edmonton tonight, and head to New York to play the Rangers on Friday.
The Vikings lead the Central Division with an 8-2 record. The Lions have won all their road division games so far, setting the stage for Thursday’s game at Ford Field. The Lions have waived defensive tackle Khyri Thornton. The Lions announced the move Tuesday, which also happened to be Thornton’s 28th birthday. Thornton has played in four games for the Lions this season. He began the 2017 season on a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy.
The Pistons are 11-6 and in third place in the NBA’s Eastern Conference and play in Oklahoma City on Friday night.
College Football Playoff
Alabama and Miami are one-two in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. The Hurricanes moved ahead of Clemson for the second spot, 10 days before the two teams meet in the ACC championship game. The Crimson Tide will put its 11-0 record on the line when they take on Auburn on Saturday. Alabama moved to the top of the rankings after previous No. 1 Georgia lost to the Tigers on Nov. 11. Oklahoma remains No. 4 heading into Saturday’s game against West Virginia. Wisconsin and Auburn are right behind the top four.
Ian Eriksen ran for three touchdowns and Eastern Michigan held on to beat Bowling Green 34-31 on Tuesday night.
The WMU Broncos play at Toledo this Friday at 11:30am.
