College Basketball

MSU lost to Notre Dame 79-78 in overtime in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Denzel Valentine led the Spartans with 22. Bryn Forbes added 18.  MSU is 5-3 on the season and hosts Arkansas Pine Bluff at the Breslin Center on Saturday.  Broadcast time is 1 pm on WBCK.

Michigan will next host the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Ann Arbor on Saturday.

The KCC Men’s basketball team beat the Albion College JV squad, 81-74 in overtime.  Joe Glover led the Bruins with 25 points.

The KCC Women’s team beat Albion 56-36.  Lexi Brautigam had 21 points and 6 rebounds.

Detroit Pistons

The Pistons dropped their tenth game in a row following a 109-102 overtime loss to the Celtics in Boston last night.  Greg Monroe led Detroit with 29 points.  Andre Drummond had a double-double with 27 points and 14 rebounds and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 15. The Pistons are off until Saturday when the Philadelphia 76ers visit The Palace.

76ers Avoid Record

The Philadelphia 76ers avoided a dubious record and got their first win of the season by beating the Timberwolves 85-77.  The Sixers are 1-and-17 and were tied for the second-longest slide to begin an NBA season.

Red Wings

The Red Wings return to the ice tonight as they host the Dallas Stars at Joe Louis Arena.  Forward Justin Abdelkader has a shoulder injury and has been listed as day-to-day. Team officials say could play tonight, depending on how he feels.

Girls Basketball

Athens beat St. Philip, 35-25.  Jillayne Wheeler scored 12 points for Athens.

Maple Valley 45, Dansville 26.

Lions

Tackle Riley Reiff and guard Larry Warford returned to the practice field yesterday as the Lions get ready to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday at Ford Field.  Reiff and Warford were both sidelined with knee injuries during Detroit's 34-17 win over the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day.  Running back Reggie Bush, who has missed the last three games because of an ankle injury, was also a full participant in drills. Defensive tackle Nick Fairley was the only player to sit out of practice yesterday.

Thursday Night Football

"Thursday Night Football" has the Cowboys visiting the Bears at Soldier Field.

Athlete of the Week

This week's WBCK/Meijer Athlete of the Week is England Bennett of the Pennfield Panthers, who led the Lady Panthers Tuesday night with 14 points and seven rebounds in a 52-46 victory over Comstock. Bennett stepped up and scored nine of her points in the fourth quarter, as she helped give the Panthers some cushion in the closing minutes.
