Michigan State has now dropped two straight after Wisconsin hits the game winning bucket with 10 seconds remaining in a 77-76 Spartans defeat.  Denzel Valentine missed a 3-pointer and Matt Costello's last-second side jumper bounced off the rim.  Valentine led Michigan State with 23 points.    Tonight it’s the Tom Izzo Show…7pm on WBCK.

Michigan Basketball

Turnovers and runs doomed Michigan falling at Iowa by the final count of 82-71.

Derrick Walton Jr. had 16 points for Michigan.  Michigan hosts Minnesota on Wednesday.

Red Wings

The Red Wings fell in a shootout 2-1 to the Flyers at Joe Louis Arena.  Niklas Kronwall scored for Detroit.  Claude Giroux countered for the Flyers in the third.  The Flyers had a goal waved off with five seconds left in regulation because a leaping Wayne Simmonds was called for goalie interference.  Flyers center Ryan White was ejected the game and was given a match penalty for using his right shoulder to hit Tomas Jurco in the head. White may face additional discipline from the NHL as a repeat offender.  The Red Wings are three points behind Florida in the Atlantic Division and host the Blues on Wednesday.

 

Pistons

The Pistons host the Bulls this afternoon in a 3:30 p.m. tip. Detroit ended a two-game losing streak with a 113-95 win over Golden State on Saturday, handing the Warriors their second loss in three games.

Boxing

Dominick Cruz regained the UFC bantamweight title Sunday night, outpointing T.J. Dillashaw by split decision at the TD Garden.

NFL

The Packers had their backs to the wall, and pulled off another hail mary pass….just like the one against the Lions earlier this season.   But veteran Larry Fitzgerald pulled off a miraculous catch and run with seconds left, and then won it on the final play, 26-20.

Carolina led 31-0 at half, but hung on to beat Seattle 31-24.

C.J. Anderson ran for a go-ahead, one-yard touchdown with three minutes left. It was Denver 23, Pittsburgh 16.

New England 27, Kansas City  20

This Sunday, Arizona is at Carolina and New England is at Denver for the right to go to the Super Bowl.

Golf

Fabian Gomez has claimed his second PGA victory by capturing the Sony Open, beating Brandt Snedeker on the second playoff hole.

Grizzies Player Fined for Condoning Violence

Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes has been fined $35,000 by the NBA for making "inappropriate public comments" condoning violence. Barnes was quoted saying, "Violence is never the answer, but sometimes it is."  The NBA says the comments condoning violence do not reflect the league or the character of its players.
