Detroit Pistons

Minnesota beat the Pistons 97-91 win at the Target Center Thursday night. Andre Drummond had 11 points and 12 rebounds but was limited in the second half by foul trouble.   Detroit was outscored by 9 in the 3rd quarter.  They’re winless at 0-and-2 so far this season under new coach Stan Van Gundy.   Caron Butler had 24 points, including 9 straight buckets as the Pistons tried to mount a comeback in the 4th. D.J. Augustin had 20 points and six assists for the Pistons. Detroit’s home opener is Saturday against Brooklyn.  Detroit will get Greg Monroe back, after he starts the season serving a two-game suspension after allegations a drinking and driving incident.

Thursday Night Football

Drew Brees overcame a shaky start and threw for one touchdown and ran for another and the New Orleans Saints defeated the Carolina Panthers 28-10 to take over first place in the NFC South.   The 4-4 Saints snap a seven-game losing streak on the road that dated back to last November.

Red Wings

The Red Wings are home to host the Los Angeles Kings tonight.  The Wings have recalled center Stephen Weiss from his conditioning loan with Grand Rapids. Weiss was limited to 26 games for the Red Wings in 2013-14 and did not play after December 10th because of hernia surgery.

College Football

In college football, Michigan is at home this weekend against Indiana. Broadcast time is 2:30 on Mix104.9 WBXX.   The Wolverines are 3-and-5 on the season. The Hoosiers come in at 3-and-4.

Michigan State is off this week, getting ready to face Ohio State a week from Saturday in East Lansing.  Michigan State Junior Quarterback Connor Cook says he intends to return to MSU for his senior season.

Volleyball

Battle Creek Central swept all three matches at the Climax-Scotts quad on Thursday. Central beat Marcellus, Eau Clair, and Climax-Scotts.  Makyla Robinson had 22 kills, Madisonn Jackson getting 14 kills, five blocks and 27 digs.

Marshall Academy beat Factoryville Christian 3-0.  Carley Travis 9 Aces, Maddy Swan 6 kills and Elayna Hoyt 9 assists.

High School Football

7-1 Lakeview will host 6-3 Mattawan.  That’ll be our WBCK radio game, Friday at 6:35.  Lakeview defeated Mattawan by 26 points in the regular season.

Harper Creek (5-4) at Plainwell (8-1)

St. Philip (8-1) will host Waldron (7-2) in the first round. The Tigers defeated Waldron three weeks ago.

Climax-Scotts (8-1) will host Pittsford (7-2).  Climax-Scotts beat Pittsford by 30 earlier in the season.

Homer (7-2) at Hudson (8-1).

Union City (8-1) is home against Pewamo-Westphalia (7-2)

The Chase heads to Texas for the second of three races in the Eliminator Round.

The NFC North leading Lions are off this week and host the Dolphins November 9th.

Inbee Park has a 3-shot lead after two rounds of the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship.

Sweden's Rikard Karlberg stands two strokes clear of the field after one round of the CIMB Classic.

LeBron Returns to Cleveland

The New York Knicks ruined LeBron James' much ballyhooed return to Cleveland by beating the Cavaliers 95-90 as James was limited to 17 points on 5-of-15 shooting from the field. Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 25 points and six assists.
