Pistons

The Pistons came from behind to beat the Celtics 99-94 in Boston. Down by nine after the third quarter, Detroit scored 33 points in the fourth and held Boston to 17 to secure the win. Reggie Jackson led the Pistons with 24 points. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 20 and Stanley Johnson had 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Pistons host the Brooklyn Nets Saturday.

 

Trammell Snubbed Again

Former Tigers shortstop Alan Trammell failed to get enough votes to be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on his 15th and final ballot. Trammell appeared on 40-point-9 percent of the ballots cast by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, falling short of the 75 percent needed for induction. Trammell will now be up for consideration by the Hall's Veterans Committee.

 

Outfielder Ken Griffey junior and catcher Mike Piazza both received enough votes to be inducted in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York this summer.

 

College Basketball

Eastern Michigan beat Central Michigan 99-80 in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams. Raven Lee scored a season-high 32 points to snap a CMU 7-game win streak.

 

The KCC women’s team beat Glen Oaks, 79-51. D'Erika Varenhorst led KCC with 28 points and 8 rebounds.

 

KCC’s men’s team lost to Glen Oaks Community College, 94-77. Coach Ben Reed says the Bruins are not going to win giving up 94 points, and need to handle the basketball better.

 

MSU Basketball

The #5 Michigan State Spartans are home tonight to play Illinois. MSU is 14-1. The Illini are 8-7. Hear the game tonight at 8 on WBCK.   After tonight, the Spartans head to Penn State on Sunday. (11am on WBCK.)

 

Michigan Basketball

Michigan plays tonight at 20th-ranked Purdue.  The Boilermakers are 13-2. Michigan is 12-3 and have one six in a row.

 

Red Wings

The Red Wings continue their six-game road trip with a stop in San Jose to face off against the Sharks tonight. Game time is 10:30 p.m. Forward Drew Miller is expected to return to the line-up against San Jose after missing the last 14 games with a broken jaw.

Red Wings rookie center Dylan Larkin has been named to the NHL All-Star team. The 19-year-old is the first Wings rookie to play in the event since Steve Yzerman in 1984.

 

MSU’s Conklin Leaves for Draft

Michigan State offensive tackle Jack Conklin will forgo his senior year and enter the 2016 NFL draft. The All-American Conklin started all three years at MSU and was named a first-team All-Big Ten selection.

 

Lions

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is taking time to think about his future with the team. In a statement released Wednesday, Johnson said he is currently evaluating options for his future, like many players at this stage of their careers. He also said he expects to have a decision regarding the matter in the not too distant future.

 

A little more than two months after he was fired by the Detroit Lions, Martin Mayhew is being considered for another NFL general manager job. On Wednesday, he interviewed with the Tennessee Titans.

NFL

The NFL playoffs start on Saturday with the Texans hosting the Chiefs. The Bengals are home against the Steelers.   On Sunday, the Vikings host the Seahawks and the Redskins are home against the Packers.
