Sports: Rain Hurts Tiger Chances But They’re Not Out of it Yet
The Tigers might finish the regular season on the road this weekend in Atlanta. Or they might finish it on Monday back in Detroit. Thursday’s game with Cleveland was finally washed out around dinner time, after the team held out hopes to play the game for a nearly 6-hour delay. Now the two teams will play the game on Monday, if it’s relevant. In other words, if it needs to be played because of postseason implications. Cleveland has clinched the AL Central. The Tigers are 1 ½ games behind Baltimore and Toronto in the American League's wild card race. Seattle is 2 games out. The Orioles blanked the Blue Jays 4-0 to tie Toronto. Baltimore has 3 games at Yankee Stadium. Toronto has three in Boston. Daniel Norris is set to pitch tonight for the Tigers. WBCK will join the game in progress after High School football.
Jordan Zimmermann will go on Saturday in what would be his first start in nearly three weeks. Zimmermann has been trying to regain his effectiveness after missing significant time with neck issues. Justin Verlander is in line to pitch the regular-season finale Sunday. Michael Fulmer could be the starter for Monday’s makeup game, and needs to pitch three more innings to qualify for the league’s earned run average title.
It it all works out for the Tigers, they'll play a one-game sudden death Wild Card Playoff game on Tuesday. But who would pitch? Buck Farmer? Anibal Sanchez? Matt Boyd?
National League Wild Card
The Mets lead the Giants in the wild card race in the National League, with St. Louis a game behind San Francisco.
NHL/Red Wings
Brad Marchand scored a short-handed goal with 43.1 seconds left and Canada beat Team Europe 2-1 to win the World Cup of Hockey with a 2-0 sweep in the best-of-three finals. Canada has won 16 straight games, including two Olympic gold medals, since losing to the U.S. in the 2010 Olympics.
The Red Wings are 2-0 in pre-season hockey. They finish the pre-season schedule tonight at Joe Louis Arena against the Bruins.
Thursday Night Football
The Cincinnati Bengals opened NFL Week 4 by topping Miami 22-7 to reach the .500 mark.
Lions Football
The Detroit Lions were well on their way to a blowout loss last week, digging themselves a 31-3 hole at Green Bay. Then Marvin Jones Junior ripped off a 73-yard touchdown catch to give some momentum to Detroit. The Lions still lost, 34-27, but Jones' impact on the team has been undeniable. He has given the offense and quarterback Matthew Stafford a legitimate downfield threat. The Lions are 1-2 and head to Chicago to play the winless Bears this Sunday. Wisconsin kicker Rafael Gaglianone is out for the season after undergoing surgery for a back injury. Gaglianone missed the Badgers' 30-6 win at Michigan State last Saturday due to his injury. #4 Michigan hosts #8 Wisconsin this Saturday in Ann Arbor. Hear the game at 2:30 on 104.9 The Edge.

Tennis Bullying Suit
A former Michigan high school tennis player and her mother were paid $30,000 in settlement of a lawsuit that alleged she was bullied while on the varsity team. Michelle Karpinski, community relations manager for Portage Public Schools, says the money was paid to Carly Pratt and her mother from insurance for Portage Central High School. The Kalamazoo Gazette obtained the documents under the Freedom of Information Act.

Tim Tebow played in his first professional baseball game this week - as action started in the Florida Instructional League. Tebow hit the first professional pitch he's seen deep over the left centerfield wall.
NFL DRIFTING DOWN
The NFL continues to sink in the ratings - for the third week in a row. The Monday night game audience was 38% lower than last year's week #3 game - but it was up against the Presidential debate - so that was expected. But Sunday night's game was lower, too...and so were all but one of the Sunday afternoon games, compared to week-3 of last year.
