Wings Name Blashill New Coach

The Red Wings have hired Grand Rapids Griffins coach Jeff Blashill as their new head coach.  The 41 year old Blashill has coached the minor-league affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins the last three seasons, winning the Calder Cup in 2013.  A Detroit native, Blashill coached at Western Michigan before joining the Red Wings' organization. Blashill was an assistant coach for the Red Wings in 2011-12 before taking over at Grand Rapids.  Blashill will replace Mike Babcock, who left last month to coach Toronto Maple Leafs.
