Red Wings

The Red Wings lost to the Wild 3-1 in Minnesota Pavel Datsyuk had Detroit's lone goal to cut the score to 2-1 late in the third, less than a minute before Minnesota put the game away with an empty net goal. Petr Mrazek turned aside 32 shots in the loss. Detroit plays in Winnipeg tonight.

 

Monday Night Football

The Broncos beat the Bengals 20-17 in the season finale of "Monday Night Football". Demarcus Ware recovered a fumble by Bengals’ Quarterback A.J. McCarron for the overtime win. Denver clinches a playoff spot with a win. The Bengals are already in.

 

College Football-MAC

Central Michigan lost to Minnesota 21-14 Monday night in the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field. Chippewas senior quarterback Cooper Rush completed 15 of 29 pass attempts for 145 yards and ran for a touchdown and was intercepted once. Freshman running back Romello Ross rushed for 100 yards on 19 carries and scored a TD. CMU finishes the year with a 7-6 record.

 

Pistons

The Pistons play the Knicks in New York tonight. The 17-and-14 Pistons hope to snap a two-game skid. The Knicks are 14-and-18, having lost their past four games.

College Basketball

In the Mac….

Eastern Michigan beat Detroit 88-73 Monday night.

Central Michigan takes on William and Mary tonight.

Big Ten Season….

Top-ranked Michigan State starts the Big Ten portion of the season tonight in Iowa.

Michigan opens Big Ten play Wednesday at Illinois.

Izzo’s Dad Dies

Carl Izzo, the father of Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo, died early Monday morning in Appleton, Wisconsin. He was 90. Carl Izzo spent most of his adult life in Iron Mountain, where he worked at Tony Izzo & Sons, a business that did shoe repair, carpets and awnings. He moved to Appleton with his wife, Dorothy, in retirement. Tom Izzo made multiple trips there in the past year to visit his father, including missing a 2000 national championship team reunion over the summer.

MSU Football

The 3rd-ranked Michigan State Spartans will hold their media day today in Arlington to preview their upcoming matchup against 2nd-ranked Alabama. The winner of Thursday night’s game will take on the winner of the Clemson-Oklahoma game in the National Championship January 11th.

Chapman to the Yanks….Eventually
Aroldis Chapman, the hard-throwing relief pitcher under investigation for domestic violence and facing a possible suspension, has been dealt from the Cincinnati Reds to the New York Yankees in exchange for 4 minor leaguers.  The Cuban defector joins flamethrowers Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller in the Yankees’ bullpen.   Florida law enforcement officials and Major League Baseball are continuing to investigate the Oct. 30 incident in which Chapman allegedly choked his girlfriend and then fired eight shots from a handgun in the garage of his Davie, Florida, home. Chapman could be suspended for a month or two, depending on the charges he faces in Florida, but the Yankees decided it was worth the gamble.

Lions

The Lions end the regular season with a road game against the Bears on Sunday.
