The Red Wings lost to the New Jersey Devils 4-3.  Detroit falls a game under .500 on the season and has lost five in a row.  The Devils jumped off to a 2-0 lead in the first few minutes.  Detroit's Henrik Zetterberg scored with 1:47 remaining in the second, to make it 2-1.  But a couple minutes later the Devils scored again on a short-handed goal and went up 4-1 on another goal minus a skater in the 3rd.  Detroit pulled within a score on goals from Tomas Tatar and Nick Jensen.  It was Jensen’s first NHL goal.  Detroit had an extra skater with 2:16 left and pulled Jared Coreau about a minute later, but it couldn't take advantage of the opportunity to extend the game to overtime.  Detroit hosts the New York Islanders on Friday.

Men’s College Basketball

Thomas Wilder scored 22 of his 29 points in the second half, including a go-ahead free throw, Tucker Haymond added 20, and Western Michigan overcame a 21-point deficit with a late run to beat Ohio 90-85 on Tuesday night to end a four-game skid.  Drake LaMont added 11 points for the Broncos (7-14, 3-6 Mid-American), who made 26 of 35 free throws to Ohio's 11 of 23.

Buffalo shot 50.7 percent from the field to beat Central Michigan 101-91 on Tuesday night.

Kent State beat EMU 70-64.

MSU is at Nebraska tomorrow night. (6pm on 95.3 WBCK).   Michigan State is 13-9 overall and 5-4 in Big Ten play.  The win over Michigan on Sunday broke a three game losing streak.

Michigan hosts Ohio State this Saturday.

Soccer Expansion Bids

Dropped by the NFL, St. Louis and San Diego are among bidders from 12 areas applying for four Major League Soccer expansion teams.  Detroit also submitted a bid.

MSU’s Don Coleman Dies at 88

Former MSU All-American offensive lineman Don Coleman has died at 88.  He was part of the National Championship 1951 team that went 9-0.

Tigers

The Detroit Tigers are loading up the moving truck to transport the club’s equipment from Comerica Park to their Spring Training home in Lakeland, FL. The clubhouse staff will begin loading the truck this morning.

Only 12 days until pitchers and catchers report to Lakeland Florida.
