Red Wings

The Red Wings beat the Flames 4-2 Sunday night at the Joe Louis Arena. Dylan Larkin and Brad Richards scored less than a minute apart in a three-goal second period.

Gustav Nyquist scored the third and eventual game winner late in the middle period.

Justin Abdelkader added an empty net goal in the final minute. Petr Mrazek stopped all but 2 of 28 shots on goal. The Wings are two points behind first-place Montreal in the Atlantic Division. The Red Wings host the Devils tomorrow night.

Lions

The Detroit Lions will be in the national spotlight tonight as they play the Saints on "Monday Night Football" in New Orleans. Kick off is 8:30 p.m. We’ll join the broadcast tonight after High School Basketball on WBCK.

Detroit has lost back-to-back game against the Packers and Rams and are last in the NFC North at 4-and-9. The Saints snapped a three-game skid last week against the Buccaneers, but are still last in the NFC South at 5-and-8.

Battle Creek Central hosts Muskegon Heights Academy, Lansing Sexton, Ann Arbor Huron and Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills tonight and tomorrow in the Chuck Turner Holiday Classic   Tonight, its BC Central vs. Ann Arbor Huron at the Battle Creek Central Fieldhouse, right around 7pm on 95.3 WBCK-FM.

NFL

Green Bay Packers 30, Oakland Raiders 20

Arizona Cardinals 40, Philadelphia Eagles 17. Arizona clinches playoff.

Carolina Panthers 38, New York Giants 35 Carolina stays perfect.

Pistons

The Pistons will be in Miami tomorrow to take on the Heat. It's the second stop on a three-game road trip for Detroit. The Pistons outlasted the Bulls 147-144 in quadruple-overtime Friday in Chicago. Detroit has won two straight and four of its last five games to move to 16-and-12 overall.

College Basketball

St. Clair CC beat KCC in Men’s Basketball 96-85 as the Bruins fall to 3-6. Coach Ben Reed says it was their best team effort in spite of the loss. KCC plays at home on Tuesday night.  KCC’s Womens team fell to St. Clair, 78-73.

The top-ranked Michigan State Spartans take on Oakland University tomorrow night in a neutral site game at The Palace. The Spartans knocked off Northeastern 78-58 on Saturday to remain undefeated at 12-and-0.

Michigan is off until Wednesday when the Wolverines host Bryant University at the Crisler Center. The Wolverines wiped out Youngstown State 105-46 on Saturday for their third straight win.

"Sports Illustrated" reports Michigan football is set to name Don Brown as its new defensive coordinator. Brown has spent the last three years in charge of the defense at Boston College, which led the nation in defense this season. He would replace D.J. Durkin, who left the Wolverines earlier this month to become the head coach at Maryland.

One of the top cornerbacks in the 2016 class is no longer committed. And Michigan's on his short list. David Long, a 6-foot, 175-pound four-star corner from Los Angeles, California announced he’s withdrawing his commitment from Stanford on Friday and immediately named Michigan and Washington as the two schools at the top of his list.

MSU Football

The 3rd-ranked Spartans will take on 2nd-ranked Alabama in the Cotton Bowl December 31st.

Tigers Sign Utility Guy

The Tigers have signed infielder/outfielder Mike Aviles on a one-year contract.

Tigers Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Al Avila says Aviles is “a versatile player that can play multiple positions and provides the depth we were looking for to help fill out our roster.”
