The Red Wings beat the Minnesota Wild 4-2 in the first regular season game at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit.  Anthony Mantha and Dylan Larkin scored 23 seconds apart in the second period for the Red Wings. But the Wild came back to tie the game in the third.  Henrik Zetterberg and Martin Frk scored in the final period to give the Red Wings the win.  Jimmy Howard recorded his 200th career win, stopping 37 shots.  Detroit plays at Ottawa on Saturday night.

Pistons

The Pistons will host the Atlanta Hawks in another pre-season game tonight at Little Caesar’s Arena.

Baseball Playoffs

The Astros beat Boston 8-2 in game 1 of the AL Division Series.  Justin Verlander allowed two runs over six innings to improve to 7-0 since being traded by the Tigers to Houston.  Astros second baseman Jose Altuve became the 10th player in major league history to homer three times in a postseason game.  The last player to do it was Pablo Sandoval, who did it for the Giants in 2012, hitting two of them off Justin Verlander.  Red Sox designated hitter Eduardo Nunez will miss the rest of the AL Division Series against Houston after reinjuring his right knee in the first inning.  Game 2 is today at 2pm in Houston.  Dallas Kuechel pitches for the Astros against Drew Pomeranz for the Red Sox.

The Indians beat the Yankees 4-0 in Cleveland in game 1 of their series.  Trevor Bauer carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.  He limited the Yanks to just two hits and had eight strikeouts over 6 2/3s. Jay Bruce hit a two-run homer.  Game 2 is today at 5pm in Cleveland. Ace Cory Kluber pitches for the Tribe against their former ace, C.C. Sabathia.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will play the Dodgers tonight at 10:30pm in Los Angeles.  Clayton Kershaw will start for the Dodgers, against the D-Backs’ Taijuan Walker.

The Nationals host the Cubs tonight in Washington.  Kyle Hendricks will start for the Cubs.  The Nationals will start Stephen Strasburg.

College Football

Michigan State plays the Wolverines Saturday night in Ann Arbor.  Seventh-ranked Michigan is allowing the fewest yards per game in the nation.  95.3 WBCK will bring you the game at 6pm tomorrow.  Michigan fans can hear it on 104.9 the Edge.

Western Michigan plays Saturday afternoon at Buffalo.  The Broncos are 3-2.

KCC Volleyball

The KCC Volleyball team beat rival Kalamazoo Valley in three in their final home game at Central Fieldhouse on Thursday.  Hannah Landis had 17 kills, six digs and three blocks to lead the Lady Bruins.  Kirby Frodge had 12 kills and 6 digs.  KCC is now 16-4, and 9-3 in conference play.

Thursday Night Football

The Super Bowl champion Patriots rebounded from a last-second loss to Carolina, with a 19-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tom Brady threw for 303 yards and one touchdown but turned the ball over twice on an interception and a fumble.

Lions

The Lions host the Carolina Panthers this Sunday.  The Lions have the best record in the NFC, tied with five other 3-1 teams, including the division rival Green Bay Packers.
